WHITTAKER, Oather L. "Jack", age 90 of Union, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Cypress Point Health Center. He was born November 28, 1924 in Rock Springs, TN, son of the late Seth & Mary Jane (Smith) Whittaker. Jack was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a longtime member of the Vandalia Church of the Nazarene and deeply rooted in his faith. Preceded in death by 6 brothers & 3 sisters, Jack is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary; 2 children, Danny & wife, Cindy Whittaker of Englewood and Rebecca & husband, Munir Bakri of Centerville; 4 grandchildren, Wendi Christopher, Amber Pack, Natalie Hildebrand & Justin Whittaker; 9 great-grandchildren, Alanna, Robbie, Ryleigh, Brady, Aiden, Liam, Stella, Gracey & Chase, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, April 17 at the Vandalia Church of the Nazarene, 620 Stonequarry Rd, with Pastors Mark Batton & Bob Vogelmann officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 11:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Vandalia Nazarene Church in Jack's memory. Arrangements entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
