SCOTT, Opal Lee, age 85, a member of the Harrison Township and Dayton community for over 60 years, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Grandview Hospital. She was born February 26, 1926 in Tazewell, TN, daughter of the late Charles & Bertha Manning. Opal was the very proud Owner & Operator of her the Scott Well & Pump Company. She was a very successful businesswoman and who took great pride in hard work and commitment to excellence. Preceded in death by 1 sister, Hester Newell and 2 brothers, George & Frank Manning, Opal is survived by her daughter, Deborah Scott & husband, Ira Travis of Butler Twp.; 2 sisters, Hanna Thompson of Miamisburg & Bonnie Cantrell of Cape Coral, FL; 1 brother, Marshall Manning of West Carrollton, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, October 10 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Acclaim Hospice in Opals memory.
