GILLETTE, Pauline Eloise (Flory) of Troy, Ohio passed away at the astonishing age of 106 on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 of natural cause. She was born February 20, 1918 in Miamisburg, Ohio and was the eldest daughter of the late Clayton Henry and Bella Donna Shelburn (Courtney) Flory. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Etta Mae (Flory) Lamb, Lucille (Flory) Hudson, Frank Flory, Dean Flory, Elsie (Flory) Henry, and Francis (Flory) Gatzius.
She is survived by the love of her life, William “Bill” Gillette, whom she married on August 27, 2008. Although Pauline had no children of her own, she was blessed to have her nephew William “Billy” Shetterly, whom she loved and treated like a son. She is also survived by her sister and best friend Lillian Alberta Lou (Flory) Shetterly; step-daughter, Jane A. Satterfield (Randy); step-son, Kevin W. Gillette (Patty); step-grandchildren, Andrew Satterfield (Madison), Will Satterfield, and Michelle Robbins (Chris); step-great grandchildren, Sarah and James; numerous nieces and nephews; countless great nieces and nephews; as well as great great nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
Pauline will sadly be missed by her family and large circle of friends. She was generous, thoughtful, and kind to everyone she met. Pauline was an outstanding cook and baker who enjoyed cooking for others. Friends and family frequently requested her pies, cookies, and pickled beats constantly. She was the eldest of eight children and cared for and raised her siblings. She was a waitress in the younger years. She enjoyed traveling every year and going to Canada with her husband and cheering for the harness race horses that she and her husband acquired. Pauline was proud to be 100 + and showed her drivers license to everyone she met to prove her age. Her favorite sayings were “Oh Well” and “Whatever”. She will be truly be missed by her family and friends. What a wonderful life she lived and she lived her life very well.
The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia, with the funeral service at 12 noon.
