Frantz, Philip R. Age 89 of Vandalia, died Friday, July 29, 2011 at home. He was born May 12, 1922 in Hagerstown, IN., son of Jacob and Ethel Frantz. He was preceded in death by his son James Frantz, a sister Louise Durand and brother Jacob M. Frantz. Phil is survived by his wife June, of 67 years, one daughter Susan and husband Gill Krouse, granddaughter Jenny and husband Jonathan Delap, grandson Paul Krouse, and great-granddaughter, Makenna Delap, sister-in-law Phyllis Frantz and many nieces and nephews. Phil was retired from Delco Moraine Division of General Motors where he worked as a tool and die designer. He was also a veteran of W.W. II, serving in the U.S.Navy. Phil was especially happy when involved in his community. He was Scoutmaster of Troop 307, worked on development of the Seger Park gazebo, was active in the Vandalia Lions Club, Vandalia-Butler Historical Society, and St. Johns Lutheran Church. Phil served on the Vandalia Sesquicentennial Committee, researching Benjamin Wilhelm, the founder of the city, and has written extensively about Vandalias history. He was an Eagle Scout and recipient of scoutings Silver Beaver award. Along with wife June, he received the Vandalia Presidents Club Distinguished Service Award in 1996. It was Phils wish to be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 122 W. National Road, Vandalia, on Sunday, August 7, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Vandalia Butler Historical Society Building Fund or St. Johns Lutheran Church. Arrangements entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
