GORDY, Phyllis J. “P.J.” (nee: Spitzig)

Age 88, passed away peacefully at home in Bainbridge, Ohio on Sunday, July 1, 2018. She had formerly lived in Huber Heights for many years. She graduated from Kiser High School in Old North Dayton and was a member of the Class of ’47 Alumni Committee. Phyllis was a retired real estate broker and former member of the Dayton Area Board of Realtors and the Bonded Realty Board. After her retirement, she moved to their tree farm in Ross County, Ohio, where she became affiliated with The Southern Ohio Forestland Assn (SOFA), The Ohio Woodland Owners Assn., and The Ohio Forestry Assn. She edited the SOFA newsletter for many years and served on the executive committee until her death. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post # 14, Bainbridge, Ohio. Phyllis loved animals, nature, wildlife and music. She was a landscape artist, a letter-writer and story teller. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, John Frank and Gertrude Elizabeth (Donnersbach) Spitzig; her beloved son, Michael Anthony Usas; her first husband, Tony Usas; and brothers-in-law, Bill and George Gordy. She is survived by her husband, Joe B. Gordy; cherished sons, Anthony Paul “Chip” Usas of San Francisco, Calif. & John Robert Usas of Huber Heights, Ohio and his special friend, Bonnie Papini; her loving sister, Martha A. Kirkland of Vandalia; and sister-in-law, Marsheena Aslinger of Soddy Daisy, Tenn; as well as many other dear relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Tenth Life animal rescue, P. O. Box 178, Alpha, Ohio 45301 in memory of Phyllis. She will be buried in Bainbridge Cemetery at the discretion of the family.
