Phyllis Ann (Lutz) Powless

Age 92, of Vandalia, and formerly of Miamisburg, died peacefully on Monday morning, March 20, 2017, at Hearth and Home Senior Assisted Living. Phyllis was born in Franklin, Ohio, daughter of the late Frederick Jung and Ethel Routzhan (Jung) (Liebecap).

Phyllis was preceded in death by Paul Lutz of Miamisburg (1966) and Donald Powless of Pemberville (2008). Phyllis is also preceded in death by her son, Terry Lutz of Vandalia (2014) and by her stepson, Donn Powless (2015).

Surviving Phyllis is her son Larry Lutz of Vandalia and his wife Marcia; stepchildren, Richard Powless, David and Karin Powless, and Diane (Powless) and Mason Roberts. Phyllis has 9 grandchildren whom she cherished, Amy Bailey (Lutz), Katy Wolfe (Lutz), Juli Anderson (Lutz), Jeff Lutz, Scott Lutz, Nathan Powless, Kristin Fritz (Powless), Brian Roberts, and Sean Roberts. Phyllis was blessed with having 20 great-grandchildren. Phyllis also leaves behind many friends, a couple of whom were exceptional, Sandy Lutz and Sharon Gitman.

Phyllis was a 1942 graduate of Miamisburg High School. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vandalia, a member of the Vandalia Sister Cities, and member of the Sigma Phi Gamma sorority. Phyllis owned and operated Anita’s Fashions in Vandalia for 21 years. Phyllis enjoyed playing the organ, playing bridge, golfing, watching sunsets, and traveling. She and Don spent many years of retirement in Naples and Sun City Center, Florida.

The family will receive condolences at Morton and Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Rd., Vandalia, OH 45377 on Wednesday from 4-7 PM. There will be a celebration of life ceremony on Thursday at 10:30 AM followed by a family procession to Hill Grove Cemetery in Miamisburg.
