Ralph E. "Smitty" Smith Age 90, of Vandalia, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015. Ralph was born April 29, 1925 in Dayton to the late William Ralph & Laura A. (Heinz) Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Athlyn (1985), second wife, Dottie (2009); and by his brother, Zane Smith. Ralph was a graduate of Fairview High School, and during WW II he served in the U. S. Army Signal Corps. He retired with over 30 years of service as a buyer for E. F. MacDonald. Ralph was also a Boy Scout Leader for Troop #119 with Assumption Catholic Church, and he enjoyed gardening, fishing, golfing and was a champion "Oh Hell" card shark. Ralph is survived by four children, Craig A. Smith (Linda), Therese A. "Terrie" Corley (Stephen), Douglas P. Smith (Penny) & Wade A. Smith (Sandy); four grandchildren, Keegan, Hunter, Bryan, Amanda (David); and by two great grandsons, Corey & Cameron. A memorial visitation will be held from 12 Noon until 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 27, at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Following the visitation, a graveside committal service with military honors will be held at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. If friends desire, contributions may be made in memory of Ralph to The Hospice of Dayton.
