Reva L. Shaffer

SHAFFER, Reva Louinez, age 97 passed away Saturday, October 2, 2015 at the Brookhaven Care Center. Reva was born on the Jacob family homestead on Iddings Rd near West Milton, OH on September 21, 1918, to her late parents, Earl C. & Vinnie Jacobs. Her twin sister, Ruth along with her sister, Rena Marie Jacobs, brothers, Marvin, Murle & Donald, her beloved husband, Donald L. Shaffer Sr. and one son, Donald Shaffer Jr., also preceded Reva in death. Reva was a graduate of the Miami Jacobs School and worked as a Nurse's Aide in the pre-natal unit at Miami Valley Hospital. In her later years, Reva volunteered in the pharmacy department of Miami Valley Hospital and also served as the Secretary for the Montgomery County MRDD. She was a member of The Covenant at Sugar Grove Church in Tipp City. Reva had a genuine passion for music and loved attending a variety of musical concerts. She played violin for the Miami Valley Orchestra and 30 years with the Wright State University Community Orchestra. She was an active patron with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Dayton Opera and Dayton Bach Society. Reva also enjoyed taking religious cruises with Dr. Charles Stanley, sewing her own clothes, was fluent in short-hand notation, and was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds. She also enjoyed watching her daughter-in-law, Joanne umpire baseball games and helping to keep score. Reva is survived by her children, Barbara S. Shaffer and Michael L. Shaffer (Joanne); grandchildren, Marijke Shaffer, Monika (Shaffer) Bartley (Scott), Erica Shaffer & Bradley Shaffer; great-grandchildren, Michael, Logan and most recently a great-granddaughter , Reva, born September 15, named after her, and Noah and Joannah Bartley. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, October 7 at The Covenant at Sugar Grove Church, 7875 S. Kessler-Frederick Rd., Tipp City, OH 45371 with Rev. Jody McGuire officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, West Milton. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. If so desired, contributions may be made to the Worship and Arts Program at The Covenant at Sugar Grove Church in Reva's memory.
