OEHLENSCHLAGER, Richard L., age 87, of Vandalia, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2012. He was born June 15, 1925 to Louis and Bessie (Linkin) Oehlenschlager. He graduated from Fairview High School, Class of 1943 and worked 36 years for GM (Delco) in Dayton in the Cost Department. He was a member of the Vandalia United Methodist Church and a Veteran of WW II. He is survived by his wife, Betty (Curran), married 66 years; son, James Oehlenschlager of Ottawa, OH, daughters, Jane Doehler and Judith Taylor of Vandalia, Jill and husband, Brad Verburg of Centerville; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Day of Canton, GA, brother, Larry Oehlenschlager (deceased) of AZ; brother-in-law, Robert Burling of North Port, FL and special friends, Ralph E. Smith of Dayton, John and Elizabeth Gleba of Huber Heights, and Gerry and Milton Shewfelt of Ontario, Canada and numerous nieces and nephews. He loved to fish and spent winters in Florida and summers at his cottage in Ontario, Canada. He loved football and his Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Bengals. Private graveside services for immediate family were held at Woodland Cemetery with Rev. Thomas Weeks officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420 in Richards memory. Arrangements entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
