Robert F. Cooney

COONEY, Robert F. Bob age 80 of Mesa, AZ formerly of Dayton, passed away Friday August 16, 2013. Bob was born January 26, 1933 in Pennington Gap, VA son of the late William & Zollie (Lambert) Cooney. He moved to Old North Dayton in 1940 and was a graduate of Kiser High School Class of 1951. In 1952 Bob joined the Army and proudly served with the 179th Infantry Regiment in Korea. He worked for Liberal Markets for many years as Manager and later for Buschurs Home Improvements until retirement. He was a life member of the American Legion and the VFW. He loved to dance and was a member of the Dayton Two Steppers for 10 years. He moved to Mesa in 2002 and will surely be missed by his dance partner of the last 10 years Charlotte Damm and his many dance friends. Preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Angel in 1990; 3 brothers Sam, Gerald, and William, and one sister Reba Macy. Bob is survived by 2 sons Robert and James both of Dayton; 3 daughters Renee Ellis of Maineville, OH, Lorie Cooney of Centerville, and Teresa Kerns of Mesa, AZ; one sister Evelyn Sue Puckett; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 24, at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home 139 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia with Deacon Jack Pitts officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:30 pm until time of service.
