GIMPERLING, Robert T., age 89, of Vandalia passed away Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the WPAFB Medical Center. He was born May 12, 1919 in Dayton, OH, son of the late John E. & Glena L. (Crow) Gimperling. Robert was a retired Colonel in the USAF who proudly served his country from 1941 to 1979, serving in numerous conflicts including WW II and the Korean Conflict. He then continued to serve his country as a logistics specialist. Robert was a graduate of Steele High School and attended the University of Missouri. He was a longtime member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Preceded in death by 1 brother, John E. Gimperling, Robert is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn (Davis) Gimperling; 2 sons, John E.Gimperling of MD; R. Thomas & wife, Julie Gimperling of Huron; 1 daughter, Nancy & husband, Michael Phillips of Englewood; 8 grandchildren, Cory, Jesse (Natalie) & Craig Gimperling, Ryan, Nathan (Jessie) & Max Gimperling and Matthew and Megan Phillips; 3 great-grandchildren, Rece, Layne & Lauren Gimperling; a very special friend, Kay Garland; and numerous other relatives and friends. Robert had a real love for Big Band music, gardening, and for talking sports with his grandson, Matt. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm, Monday, March 2, at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia with Pastor Laurie Davis officiating. Burial to follow at Polk Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wellness Connection, 105 Sugar Camp Circle, Ste. 100, Dayton, OH 45409 in Roberts memory.
