Robert E. “Gene” Gregory
Age 74, of Vandalia, passed away Wednesday; May 31, 2017. He was born December 26, 1942 in Salt Lick, KY to the late William F. & Henrietta (Royse) Gregory. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Carroll & Clinton; and two sisters, Elizabeth & Veneta.
Gene had a zest for life and loved music, cars, travel, trivia and reading. He served six years in the U. S. Air Force Reserves stationed at the Clinton County AFB in Wilmington, Ohio. He retired in 1996 from Chrysler Motors with 31 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 668 (Vandalia) and the AMVETS Post # 99 (Vandalia). He was dearly loved by his family & friends and will be sorely missed.
Gene is survived by his wife of the past 33 years, Marlys (Yagow) Gregory; one daughter, Trish Crawford (David); grandson, Matthew Gustin (& his fiancée, Amber Gebhardt); great granddaughter, Madison Gustin; brother, James Burke; two sisters, Willa Michael (Ralph) and Charlotte Cooper (Jay); and by his extended family & many good friends.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 6, at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Funeral service will follow at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Steve Gettinger officiating. After the funeral service, all are invited to join the family for a time of food and fellowship at the AMVETS Post located at 1123 S. Brown School Rd., Vandalia.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that contributions be made in memory of Gene to either the American Heart Association or Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 9100 N. Main St., Dayton, OH 45415.
