Robert J. Heckman

August 25, 1932 — March 30, 2017

HECKMAN, Robert J. age 84 of Brookville, formerly of Vandalia passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the Brookhaven Care Center. He was born August 25, 1932 in Dayton, son of the late Frank & Greta (VanDyke) Heckman. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was a longtime member of St Christopher Catholic Church. He was very active with the Bereavement Ministry and was a member of the St Chris Seniors group. He was a member of the Vandalia Senior Citizens and was a retired employee of Frigidaire.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Helen in 2012, and is survived by his children Mark (Maria) Heckman of MD, Robert (Catherine) Heckman of Cleveland, Linda (Bradley) Limbert of Brookville, Debra (Kenneth) Pfahl of MI, Karen (Jon) DeDario of MI; one brother, James Heckman (Sue) of Dayton; 2 sisters, Greta Kramer of IN & Betty Lefeld of Dayton;12 grandchildren Maria, Katherine, Olivia, Kelsey, Cory, Megan, Adam, Ben, Bailee, Kyle, Justin, Elizabeth; 7 great-grandchildren Christian, Wyett, Josaline, Emery, Whitney, Madison & Tucker; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday April 4, at St Christopher Catholic Church 401 E. National Rd, Vandalia with Fr. John Tonkin officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home 139 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia on Monday evening from 5-7pm. If so desired, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association in Robert’s memory.
