Robert D. Smith

SMITH, Robert D., age 76 of Butler Twp., passed away Monday, December 25, 2017 at his residence. He was born February 18, 1941 in Glouster, OH, son of the late Elijah & Rose (Shaner) Smith. Robert was a retired Sales Engineer with Globe Motors and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He was an active member of the Vandalia United Methodist Church where he served on several committees over the years, and was a member and Past-President of the Vandalia Lions Club. Robert was an avid golfer, was an artist and had a true passion for his family, especially his grandchildren. Robert is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Janet (Hooper); 1 daughter, Michelle Tupper (Donald); 3 grandchildren, Joshua Tupper (Selina), Matthew and Brianna Tupper, 2 great-grandchildren Damian & Annabelle Tupper, 1 sister, Phyllis Demchak (George) and 2 brothers, Roger Smith (Carolyn) and Kurt Smith (Sharon), along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, December 30, at the Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 S. Dixie Dr, Vandalia with Rev. Michael Malcosky officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton or the Vandalia United Methodist Church in Robert’s memory. Arrangements entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
