Robert E. (Bob) Townsend
Age 72 of Tipp City, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018, after a brief illness at Upper Valley Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. He was born May 15, 1945 in Springfield, Ohio, son of the late Francis and Mary Janice (Gorsuch) Townsend. Bob was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and formerly a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta (Walker) Townsend; daughter, Tiffany Townsend-Daniels; and siblings, Kam Townsend, Tim Townsend and Nikki Compston. He is survived by his daughter, Tamera, and her husband, Chris George; grandsons, Noah and Nathan George; son-in-law, Steve Daniels; six siblings, Beau, and his wife, Julie Townsend, Sandy Carnes, Terry Townsend, Kathy, and her husband, David Sadlier, Cindy, and her husband, Ed Wood & Patty Walling; and by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends.
Bob graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1964 and joined the Air Force serving in Thailand during the Vietnam War. Upon his stateside assignment at Grenier AFB in Manchester, New Hampshire, Joe and Linda Cappuchino (life-long friends) introduced him to his future wife, Roberta (Bobbie) Walker. Bob told Bobbie after that first meeting that he was going to marry her and three months later they married in Manchester, NH and were married for 47 years.
Bob and Bobbie moved to Ohio where he began his life-long career in auto sales. They eventually made their way to Vandalia, Ohio where they raised two daughters, Tiffany and Tamara. In Vandalia they made many life-long friends. In 1990 they started a new chapter in Cincinnati where Bob started Bob Townsend Ford (What a Guy!). Throughout their time in Cincinnati they were blessed to have added many new friendships. As fate would have it they moved back to the Dayton area where they enjoyed watching their grandsons grow up and attending their many activities.
Throughout his life Bob was an avid bowler, golfer and card player. There wasn’t a sport Bob didn’t enjoy watching or betting on.
Special thanks to Armand and Jackie Tremblay, Brenda McGimsey, Tom and Teresa Speros and Kathy Sadlier for everything they have done for Bob and Bobbie over the years. Also, a special thanks to the ICU staff at Upper Valley Medical Center for taking such amazing care of Bob and his family.
