Robert C. Treiber

TREIBER, Robert Charles, age 82, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born in Dayton January 7, 1928 to Charles and Ruth (Gutwein) Treiber. He was a member of the Vandalia United Methodist Church and was a 1945 graduate of Kiser High School. He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Leyte. He was retired from General Motors after 30 years of service and proudly served as the First Fire Chief of the City of Vandalia from 1976 to 1998. He was a member of the Montgomery County Fire Chiefs Association and the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association. He was also a member of VFW Post #9582. Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Catharine (Rudolph); his children, Kathleen Jo Treiber of Lebanon, Charles Robert Treiber of Tipp City, and Rebecca & husband, Rudy Wells of Butler Twp.; his six grandchildren, Joshua, Adam and Luke Treiber, Anne Rebecca and husband, Travis Moore, and Charlotte and Andrew Wells; and a host of other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 11, at the Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 S. Dixie Dr., with Rev. Thomas Weeks officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia on Tuesday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton or to the Vandalia Firefighters Association in Roberts memory.
