Rodney D. Ziemer, Sr.

July 30, 1939 — January 3, 2015

Rodney D. Ziemer, Sr. Age 75, of Vandalia, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015, at The James Cancer Center at Ohio State University in Columbus. Rodney was born July 30, 1939 in Gresham, Oregon to the late Freddie & Zella (Puckett) Ziemer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jo Ann Ziemer; and by one son, Rodney Ziemer, Jr. Rodney was a member of Vandalia United Methodist Church where he was active with the Mission Committee. He was also active with Gideon's International. He graduated from Bob Jones University in S. C. with a Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Engineering. He went on to serve as Chief Engineer at WFCJ and retired in 2010 from WDTN (channel 2) with 45 years of service. Rodney served his country for eight years as a member of the Army National Guard. He was a member of Vandalia Lions Club, the Miami Valley Music Men and he sang with the Day Tones Barber Shop Quartet. He was also active with the Miami Valley Baptist Church for the Deaf and Hearing. Rodney is survived by his wife, Glenda Bitner Ziemer (nee: Downey); children, Roscoe (Lisa) Ziemer, Robert (Cindy) Ziemer, Jessie (Greg) Grubb, Joella Perkins, Jonica Ziemer (Nikki Jackson), Jedotta (Brian) Dainsberg, C. David (Natalie) Bitner III & Bethany (Dave) Lauffenburger; brothers, Richard (Adelle), Robert (Barbara) & David Ziemer; daughter-in-law, Jenny Ziemer; 24 grandchildren, Rodney III, Amanda (Kyle), Ryan, Kevin (Bekah) Kimberly, Tyler, Weston, Tamara, Shelby, Parker, Carson, Jacob, Ashley, Amber (Mitch), Stephanie (John), Luke, Cassandra, Christine, Braylen, Taelyr, Matthew (Megan), Jonathan (Amber), C. David IV "Chase" & Ireland; two great grandchildren, Aria & Kaylee; and by two aunts, Dorothy Cox & Loretta Cummings. The family will be receiving friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 8, at the Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, at the church with Pastor Michael Malcosky officiating. Entombment will follow at Heritage Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Rodney to the Vandalia Butler Food Pantry, P. O. Box 141, Vandalia, Ohio 45377.
