Roger W. Nies

Age 88, of Dayton, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 at The Hospice of Dayton. He was born September 25, 1928 in Dayton to the late William C. & Edna C. (Harting) Nies. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 36 years, Betty Nies, in 1987; and by nine siblings, Joseph H., Clara Weisenborn, Edith Cross, Leah Richardson, William J., Raymond, Kenneth, Richard & Edward.

Roger was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed making wine to be used at the church’s communion services. He worked as Paymaster with International Envelope Co., retired from Delco Products, and he proudly served in the Air National Guard.

Roger is survived by two devoted daughters, Karen McKinney (Danny) and Sherri Gray (Daniel); a sister, Shirley Greider; four grandchildren, whom he loved deeply and enjoyed the times he had with them, Brittany, Cameron, Christopher (Sarah) & Logan.

The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday (7/20) at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 7700 Dog Leg Road, Dayton (45414). Pastor Kurt Lammi will officiate. Interment will follow at Polk Grove Cemetery. The family will also be receiving friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
