Roger W. Wanamaker

Age 79, formerly of Vandalia, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 6, 2016, at his home surrounded by family. Roger was born March 21, 1937 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Otmer & Mildred (Rekart) Wanamaker. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Hyun Sun Wanamaker.

He was a U. S. Army veteran, a former (20 year) member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, currently a member of St. Charles Boromeo Church, and retired as a Sales Manager from Reynolds & Reynolds. He was an active member of Ambucs while also maintaining his real estate agent/broker license. He also served as president of his neighborhood association. Roger was an avid tennis player in his younger years and later in his retirement years he became a competitive golfer.

Roger is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ann C. (Hempfling) Wanamaker; five children, Larry Wanamaker, Julie Vasquez (Rene), Lori Henger (Don), Bob & John Wanamaker; four sisters, Janice Davenport (Lynn), Carol Kunz (Ronnie), Diane Freund (Bob) & Terri Etzkorn (Jim); eleven grandchildren; Andy; Brandon, Maria, Roman & Audrey; Sarah, Christina, & Angelina; Jennifer, Laura & Clay; seven great grandchildren; and by his extended family & many good friends.

The family will be receiving friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday (11/10) at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Mass of Christian burial on Friday (11/11) at 11:00 a.m., at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 435 East National Road, Vandalia, Ohio 45377. The family will also be receiving friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass at the church. Interment of cremated remains will be at Poplar Hill Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in memory of Roger to either The Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45420 or to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.

Roger’s family would also like to send a special thanks to all of those at Hospice of Dayton for their wonderful care during his final days.
