Ronald E. "Ron" Gearhart

GEARHART, Ronald E. "Ron", age 76 of Butler Twp., passed away Friday, June 27, 2014 at Hearth and Home of Vandalia. He was born September 10, 1937 in New Lebanon, OH. Ron was a 1955 graduate of Dixie High School, and then attended Denison University. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Miami University and started as a Teacher and Coach for the Vandalia-Butler City Schools. Later, he proudly served on the School Board for 18 years. Ron also worked in the family business at Frisch's and the Vandalia Cafeteria before settling into his career as a Real Estate broker and asbestos consultant. Preceded in death by his father, Paul E. Gearhart, Ron is survived by his mother, Ruth (Bowser) Gearhart; his wife of 52 years, Julia (Brusman) Gearhart; children, Gregg Gearhart (Maureen) of Waynesville, Ronda Koepke (Keith) of Allentown, PA and Jennifer Schoonover (Rob) of Cincinnati; 6 grandchildren, Paul, Ian, Josh, Logan, Will & Aubrey; 2 brothers, Gary Gearhart (Kay), and Kent Gearhart; 1 sister, Kaye Dafler, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 1 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 122 W. National Rd., Vandalia with Pastor Ron Dafler officiating. Interment will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia on Monday evening from 5-8 pm. If so desired, contributions may be made to the Vandalia-Butler Foundation in Ron's memory.
