Ruby Arlene Kuhns

January 10, 1917 — April 17, 2016

Ruby Arlene “Arlene” Kuhns

Age 99, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 17, 2016.

She was born in Akron, Ohio, on January 10, 1917 to Harry Anderson Coup and Ruby Crickmer Coup.

She graduated from Kent State High School in 1935. In 1938 she married Harold Calvin Kuhns. She and Harold spent most of their 34 years of marriage in Ohio, first in Kent and then in Dayton and Vandalia. Early in their marriage they also lived for a time in Taneyville, Missouri. Arlene was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, a full-time homemaker, and a faithful volunteer at Grace Community Church in Huber Heights, where she was a founding member.

All who knew her were blessed by her gentle spirit and godly life. Her life exemplified one of her favorite Bible verses: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6). Though grieved at her death, her family rejoices that she is now “with Christ, which is far better” (Philippians 1:23).

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold in 1972, son Ralph in 1973, sisters, Dorothy Steinmetz and Hazel Proctor, and brother, Paul Coup.

She is survived by her sons, H. Edwin (Marty) Kuhns of Ludlow Falls, Robert (Barbara) Kuhns of Lebanon, John (Jojit) Kuhns of Vandalia, and daughters, Marjorie Kuhns of Vandalia, Ruby (Mike) Bonham of New Carlisle, and Deborah (John) Rau of Grand Rapids, Michigan; 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and sister, Grace Hinson of Jacksonville, Florida.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday 5-8 pm & 10:00 am until time of service on Friday at Grace Community Church, 5001 Fishburg Road, Huber Heights. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 22 at 10:30 am, at Grace Community Church with the Rev. Bob Foote officiating. Burial will be held at Polk Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruby Arlene’s name to either Grace Community Church Care Commission, 5001 Fishburg Rd., Huber Heights, OH 45424 or to the Young Life Springfield, P. O. Box 1465, Springfield, OH 45501.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff at Grace Brethren Village and Hospice of Dayton for their exceptional care of Ruby Arlene for the last several months.
