HOOVER, Russell L., age 95 passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born January 28, 1918 in Brookville, OH, son of the late Warren T. & Mary Ann (Knisley) Hoover. Russell was a U.S. Army Air Corp Veteran who served with the 421st Bomb Squadron. He formerly attended Mack Memorial Church of the Brethren and was a member of the Vandalia Senior Citizens. Russell was the Past Master & member of the Miami Valley Lodge #660 F&AM for 50 years and Millenium Lodge #779, the Tau Chapter #239, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, and the Dayton Amateur Radio Club W8KQZ for over 50 years. He was a 65+ year member of the Local #82 I.B.E.W., and retired as an electrician with the Dayton Board of Education. Russell also served as the President of the Dayton Teachers Federal Credit Union. Preceded in death by his wife, Edith; 1 sister, Edna, brother-in-law, Jack & wife, Jane Scott; & sister-in-law, Mary Jane Scott; Russell is survived by his daughter, Carole Gladura of Vandalia; son, David S. & wife, Ruzanna Hoover of KS; granddaughter, Jennifer Shearer (David) of Vandalia; special niece, Barb Long (Robert) and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm, Thursday, June 27 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 pm until time of service. A Graveside service with military honors will be held for family and friends at 10:00 am, Friday, June 28 at the Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery, 8135 N. Dixie Dr. Dayton. If so desired, contributions may be made to the Ohio Masonic Home or to Hospice of Dayton in Russells memory.
