Ruth E. Beck

BECK, Ruth E., age 89, formerly of Vandalia passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Emeritus at Fox Run in Fairborn, OH. Ruth was born the third of five children to the late Earl & Gertrude (Eddy) Abicht in Newport, Ohio on October 29, 1923. Ruth spent her early years raising her family before deciding to pursue her career in education. She started college, graduated from of the University of Dayton, and went on to have a wonderful 20 year career as a teacher at Demmitt Elementary School in Vandalia. Ruth was also an active member of the Vandalia-Butler Historical Society and a member of a retired teachers sorority. She was an avid gardener, antique collector and she loved to cook. Sharing in her familys love for sports, Ruth proudly supported the youth by running concession stands for over 15 years. Preceded in death by her husband, Harold and her 4 siblings, Ruth is survived by 2 sons, Harold Thomas Beck (Susan) of GA and Robert Beck (Sandy) of Tipp City; 6 grandchildren, Jenny (Jason), Pam (Nick), Amy (Jason), Casey, Andy & Hannah; 1 great-grandson, Brayden, 2 nephews, Cecil & Bill Schneider and families, and her dear friend, Helen Lawson. A Celebration of Ruths life will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, May 28 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia with Pastor Mark Meyer officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 am until time of service. A private graveside service will be held by the family at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Emeritus at Fox Run Activities Department, 7800 Dayton-Springfield Rd., Fairborn, OH 45324 in Ruths memory.
