Ruth E. Shellabarger
Age 65 of Vandalia, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2016 at the Ohio State University hospital. She was born on November 24, 1950 in Dayton to her parents, the late Ed and Verna Cauley. She was a 1969 graduate of Trotwood-Madison high school. She received her associate’s degree from Sinclair, her bachelor’s degree from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, and her masters from the University of Cincinnati, all in nursing. She worked at the Dayton Good Samaritan hospital for 33 years, with other stops at the Dayton VA Medical Center and Good Samaritan North Health Center during her career. Her brothers Bill Cauley and Ed Cauley precede her in death. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Don Shellabarger; her son Derek Shellabarger (Christina); daughter Kelley Flees (DJ); grandchildren Olivia and Madalyn Shellabarger; sisters Francis Groh, Phyllis “P.J.” Cauley Patton, and Lela Jones, brother Michael Cauley; best friend Donna; and numerous nieces and nephews. She attended the Dayton Vineyard Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society.
