Ryan T. Hamm

June 27, 1995 — August 10, 2016

Ryan Taylor Hamm, 21, went to be with the Lord on August 10, 2016.

Ryan’s death was the result of a traffic accident as he was enroute from Houston returning to Edmond to begin his senior year in college. He was struck head-on by a drunk driver who crossed the centerline. Ryan died instantly.

Ryan was born on June 27, 1995 to John and April Hamm in Dayton, Ohio and the family subsequently moved to Spring, Texas. Tragedy struck early in Ryan’s life with the loss of his mother due to an automobile accident. In 2007 John married Shannon Steel and the family, including older brother Andrew, later welcoming the additions of younger brothers Preston and Landon.

Ryan graduated from Klein High School in 2013. He attended Texas State University for one year and transferred to the University of Central Oklahoma to pursue a degree in Economics when the family moved to Edmond in 2014.

Ryan was employed by the Edmond YMCA as a lifeguard and swimming instructor in the children’s program. He loved working with kids and had previously instructed children in swimming in the Spring/Klein area while in high school and college. Ryan would explain to his Dad, that he would not tell the kids what they want to hear, but reward improvement when it was deserved. He was praised for his ability to connect with children gaining fast results.

He was particularly fond of spending time and playing with his younger brothers, Preston and Landon. He also enjoyed playing soccer, basketball, skiing and swimming. He swam for his high school swim team and was involved in music as a base player in orchestra.

The Hamm family includes John and Shannon; brothers Andrew, Preston and Landon; grandfather, John Earl Hamm and oma Ute Schmidt of Spring Texas; grandmother, Connie Goodrich of Dayton; great grandmother, Jean Dalessandro (Sam Dalessandro) of Xenia, Ohio; grandparents, Larry and Marcella Morgan of Dayton; and step-grandparents, James and Suzanne Steel of Willis, Texas. Ryan also has extended family including aunts, uncles, and cousins living in Spring, Texas and the Dayton, Ohio areas.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 20, at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
