ZORNES, Sandra K. "Sandy" age 71 of Huber Heights, passed away Saturday March 21, 2015 at Grandview Hospital. She was born April 7, 1943 in Jeffersonville, IN, daughter of the late Kenneth & Anna (Abney) Smith. Sandy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and her home and family truly meant the world to her. In 1981, while working for the American Express Bank in the Weisbaden Hospital, Germany, Sandy was one of a small group that played a key role in aiding the 52 U.S. hostages of the Iranian Hostage Crisis in their return home. Preceded in death by her son, Scott E. Zornes in 2008 and her brother, Lynn Smith, Sandy is survived by her husband of 53 years, Scotty Zornes of Huber Heights; 1 son, Mitch Zornes (Theresa) of Vandalia; 3 grandchildren, Maura Zornes (T.J. Harrison), Trevor Zornes, Kaitlyn Zornes (D.J. Dunn), special family friend, Juanita Bennett, her beloved dog, Fritz, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm, Tuesday, March 24 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Interment will follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.
