Sarah Winner, 76, of Tipp City, passed away peacefully November 5, 2018 at home surrounded by her family. Daughter of the late Herbert and Lillian (Sommer) Fischer, she was born July 11, 1942 in Minster, OH.
Sarah graduated from Minster High School in 1960 and married Pete, her high school sweetheart in 1963. A homemaker most of her life, Sarah was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who made any occasion extra special with her creative touch and sense of style. Her devotion extended to her parish family, as well, serving over 20 years on the bereavement ministry at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Vandalia. Leading the ministry for six years, she was instrumental in establishing a program that has brought comfort and peace to countless families in their time of greatest sorrow. Sarah was an avid reader and history buff and enjoyed encouraging her grandchildren to appreciate the finer arts. She loved a good crossword puzzle and always enjoyed competing with (and often outplaying) the contestants on "Jeopardy!". Sarah loved everything about nature from flower gardening at home, to hiking in the mountains, playing Gin Rummy on the beach, or water skiing on Norris Lake. She was well-traveled, seeing much of the world on vacations with Pete and her daughters.
Sarah was preceded in death by brothers Terrance and Theodore Fischer, sisters-in-law, Pamela (Winner) LaFalse, Patricia (Winner) Gavit, and Joanne Fischer, brother-in-law Richard "Beetle" Winner, and niece Leslie Fischer. Sarah is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Roger "Pete" Winner, daughters Teresa Winner (Patrick Jones), Suzette Winner, Melinda (Brian) Shilt, Amy (David) Susag, grandchildren Braden Shilt, Lillian Susag, Abigail Susag and Anna Susag, a loving extended family, and many wonderful friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday November 12, at 11:30am at St Christopher Catholic Church 435 E. National Rd. with Fr John Tonkin and Fr Francis Keferl officiating. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home 139 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia on Sunday afternoon from 2-5pm. The family specifically requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to St Judes Childrens Hospital or to the St Christopher Parish in Sarah's memory.
