Sharon Kay Arnold

October 26, 1943 — November 1, 2012

ARNOLD, Sharon Kay (POPE) 69 - of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her family and in the care of her beloved Hospice, on Thursday, Nov. 1. The memory of her beauty, grace and deep love of her family and her Lord Jesus Christ will sustain her loved ones in their loss. She was born in Dayton, Ohio to the late Herbert and Kathleen Pope (Roads). She graduated from Colonel White High, 1961. After graduation, she married the love of her life, William C. Arnold and together they made their dream of a beautiful young family a reality. Sharon loved to support her growing familys interest in sports and, with her husband, and the sponsorship of Renies Hair and Fashions of Tipp City, established a softball team for her daughter, Kimberly and other local girls in 1977 at a time when options were limited for them. Interest was so strong that Tippecanoe High School responded by created their first girls softball team. Sharons support continued in the next generation as she and William proudly cheered on her granddaughter, Joy Katelyn Arnolds exceptional softball talents with the Lady Dragons Fastpitch Softball organization of Phoenix. Like her mother before her, Sharon was an amazing cook and has passed that legacy on to each generation of women in her family. Sharon was a graduate of Sinclair CC, where she obtained her nursing degree in 1985. Upon graduation she worked at Kettering Medical Center and ultimately, Miami Valley Hospice. Hospice was her nursing passion and gift. While there, she was integral in establishing their first bereavement programs. She sensitively and compassionately helped families and their loved ones in the transition to the next life. She is predeceased by her mother, father and her brother Larry Pope. She is survived by her treasured husband William, daughter Kimberly, son Charles and his wife Ann of Phoenix, and their daughter Joy Katelyn Arnold. Viewing will be held Tuesday morning, Nov. 6 from 10-11AM, with services at 11AM at the Morton and Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia, Ohio. Burial will follow at 2:30 PM at Miami Valley Memory Gardens in Centerville, Ohio where she will be laid to rest next to her mother and father. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to Hospice of the Valley of Phoenix who helped her in her final days or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to fund research to provide many more healthy days for her granddaughter.
