ADAMS, Shirley Mae, age 82, formerly of Vandalia, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Brookdale of Kettering. Shirley was born October 8, 1936 in Wise, Virginia, daughter of the late Homer and Gussie (Fannon) Dorton. She retired after a long, fulfilling career as the cafeteria supervisor with the Vandalia-Butler City Schools. Shirley was a faithful servant devoted to her God. She never met a stranger and prided herself in making her friends her family. She loved fishing and playing bingo and was a wonderful cook. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Preceded in death by her husband, Harold L. Adams, son, Dion R. Adams, her daughter, Darinda Ricica, and numerous brothers and sisters. Shirley is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sherri & Jim Peterson; three grandchildren, Brady Adams (Maryanne), Erin Clark (Russ) and John Ricica; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Gracelynn Adams; son-in-law, Peter Ricica; special son, Russell Neville; sister-in-law, Myrtle Dorton; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty and Sam Warrens; her “girls” Carol Gerros and Rosie Meek, devoted friends, Lela and Jim Peterson, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia, with Mr. Bill Wheeler officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 pm until time of service. The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff of Brookdale of Kettering and Day City Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Shirley and to the entire family.
