Shirley L.R. Smith

SMITH, Shirley L.R., age 90 of Vandalia, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018. She was born September 1, 1927 in Altoona, PA, daughter of the late Maude C. (Raffensparger) Mann and was the last of 13 children. Shirley was the former Manager of Fox Cleaners and a member of the Cassel Hills Church of Christ for over 60 years.

Preceded in death by her 12 siblings, 1 granddaughter, Tammy Sue Manns, 2 great-grandchildren, and her son-in-law, Ron Nickel, Shirley is survived by her 3 daughters, Susan Gotthardt, Sharon Nickel and Donna Manns; 10 grandchildren, Michael Spirito (Melissa), John Spirito, Kristine Imel, Kevin Nickel, Stefanie Jones (James), Ryan Gotthardt; Tami Daniel (Jason), Richard Manns (Mya), Harold Cruea (Allison) & Lee Keegan; 26 great-grandchildren, Mason, Nick, Brock, Hank, Amelia, Joey, Cameron, Morgan, Ethan, Andrew, Alex, Joel, Kaci, Jayden, Kaden, Sam, Sophie, Sydney, James, David, Emillie, Gunnar, Jaxon, Dylan, Lindsey, 4 great-grandchildren, Elijah, Aurora, Carter & Noah; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, May 15 at the Cassel Hills Church of Christ, 836 S. Brown School Rd., Vandalia with Mr. David Edmonds officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm, Monday evening (5/14) at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Ron Nickel Scholarship Fund or to Hospice of Dayton in Shirley’s memory.
