KLEISMIT, Stephen A. Sr. Steve , age 83, of Vandalia, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2007 at Springcreek Nursing Center. He was born September 2, 1923 in Dayton, OH, son of the late Walter & Mary (Lech) Kleismit. Steve worked 30 years for NCR and then retired from Laughter Tool Co. He was a founding member and was a former Chief of the Vandalia Rescue Squad and a Vandalia Auxiliary Police Officer. He was a WW II Army Air Corp Veteran, was a member of the American Legion Post #668, the PNA Lodge #1935, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #2201 and the 25th Bomb Group and the Polish Club. Preceded in death by 1 infant son, Phillip, 1 brother, Edward, 3 sisters, Eugenia, Eva and Natalia and 1 son-in-law, Jerry Roweton, Steve is survived by his wife of 59 ½ years, Betty; 4 daughters, Sherry Vanderpool (Mike) of KY, Carol Doolin (Herman) of Springfield, Judy Roweton of New Carlisle, and Karen Woods (Douglas) of GA; 1 son, Stephen Kleismit Jr. of Vandalia; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Stella Bir and Rose Ann Martin; 1 sister-in-law, Jeanne Kleismit; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, August 23 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Burial to follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton or the Wellness Connection of the Miami Valley in Steves memory.
