(Vellenga) Sexton; four nieces, Darlene (David) Proctor, Donnelle (Gary) Martin, Geniveve (Mike) Barber, Pamela Gondek and their children. He will be fondly remembered by his other nieces, nephews and their children – Miriam Luete (Duane), Anne Johnson (Al), David Skiff (Kim), Jordan Skiff (Sheila), Kimberley Vellenga (Steve Clark), John Vellenga (Susan), Amy Lovdahl (Brian), Christine Vellenga, and Rachel Vellenga. He had a close friendship with his sister-in-law, Janet (Vellenga) Skiff and brother-in-law, John Vellenga.
Rothwell was a graduate of Scott County High School in Oneida, Tennessee – May 1945. He served in the Army from January 1946 to February 1947; the last group that was drafted at the end of WWII. After discharge he moved to Dayton. He lived with his cousin in Dayton and started his first job as a payroll clerk at GHR foundry (later Amcast). Over the years his responsibilities changed from Payroll Master to supervisor in payroll and early conversion of production accounting called “TelaControl.” He worked there until the foundry closed in 2004. Later he worked at Miami Valley Hospital in the finance department until retirement.
He enjoyed his family visits. He loved summers when nieces and nephews would come to visit. An avid reader who read three newspapers a day. He loved to talk politics with his friends. He especially enjoyed vacations to Door County Wisconsin, the Outer Banks and trips to the Baseball Hall of Fame. He followed the Cincinnati Reds and Dragons baseball, the Cleveland Browns and Golf. He loved to walk in the neighborhood (usually 5 miles a day) or the Vandalia Rec Center. He took pleasure in working in the yard and especially cutting the lawn just perfectly. Rothwell was kind and considerate and always cheered others with his beautiful smile.
His wife Sally and family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Grace Brethren Village, Englewood, Ohio for their loving care. We also extend our thanks to Dr. Gene Lease, his personal physician, and to all his friends and neighbors and his good friend, Kevin Conley, for the kind and loving care they provided.
