Theron Louis Dumas

DUMAS, Theron Louis, age 91, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017. He was born November 25, 1925, in Ocilla, GA, son of the late Theron & Lois (Fletcher) Dumas. He married Mildred Virginia (nee) Sortman Dumas on November 2, 1944 in Dayton, Ohio. Louis served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Boatman First Class. He then was the store manager and supervisor at Liberal Markets in Dayton, Ohio. In 1976, Louis and Virginia moved to Henderson, Texas to own and operate the Captain’s Table Restaurant and Louis returned to the Dayton area in November of 2015. In retirement, he pursued his interest in cattle, horses, catfish, orchards and boar goats. Preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Virginia, infant daughter, Jane and his son, Travis, Louis is survived by his children, Jerry Dumas, Nancy Horbowy (Thadeus), Cynthia Fox (James), & Mark Dumas (Chris); nine grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, along many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia with Pastor Dennis Durig of the Living Word Church officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Dayton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to March of Dimes Attention: DRFR, 1275 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, New York 10605 in honor of Travis Dumas “Teddy”.
