Thomas Marshall

d. July 23, 2007

MARSHALL, Tom age 85, of Vandalia died peacefully Monday, July 23, 2007 at Hearth and Home of Vandalia. He was a longtime Vandalia resident who lived a wonderful life with his wife, Mary who preceded him in death in January 2002. He is survived by his four children, Sally, Tom, George and Jack and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tom was a WW II veteran of the US Navy aboard the aircraft carrier Essex. He flew off that ship as a tailgunner in a torpedo bomber. After the war, Tom received his degree in electrical engineering from the University of Cincinnati. There he met and married Mary Stoner. He went to work for Delco Products and after many years began working in the material handling business. He worked first for Scott Material Handling and then, with his partner, ran Gates-Marshall Material Handling. After retiring, Tom spent time square dancing, spending time with his children and grandchildren and time enjoying life. He was just a great guy and we will all miss him. It was Toms wish to be cremated, and a Memorial Service for family and friends will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, July 27 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia with Pastor Alan Knoke officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until time of service.
