Tim E. Garwood Sr.

April 12, 1940 — August 14, 2014

GARWOOD, Tim E., Sr., age 74 of Vandalia, OH., passed away Thursday, August 14, after a long struggle with vascular dementia. Tim was a 1958 graduate of Butler High School. He retired from Angell Manufacturing Co. in 2004 as V.P of Design Engineering after 43 years of service and many trips to Europe working with automotive designers on interior car trim, most recently for Audi in Ger-many. Tim's passion for creativity extended beyond his career. As a gifted artist,photographer and local historian, he left a legacy of displays in the buildings on the grounds of the Historical Society of Vandalia Butler. He served for many years there as a trustee and two years as president. He was the resident expert on the town of Tadmor, for years leading tours to view the remains of what was once one of Ohio's most important centers of business and commerce. Tadmor was the Crossroads of Transportation, where The National Road, Miami-Erie Canal,Great Miami River and Dayton & Michigan Railroad met until it was washed out by the 1913 Flood. Preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lillian Kercher Garwood and twin brothers, William and Walter. Survivors include his wife, Jennifer and the mother of his children, Patricia Garwood. Also surviving are his son Tim, Jr. (Lesa), and daughters, Ginger (Bill) Kuhn and Nicole (Tom) Zehner; eight grandchildren, Hannah and Tim Garwood III; Sarah, Becca, Wilson and Nathaneal Kuhn; Dylan and Ashley Zehner; step-daughters, Amanda (Filippo) Smyth-Toma and Erin (Brad) McLaughlin and their daughter, Gracie; sister-in-law Diana Garwood and previous wife, Nancy Garwood. Visitation will be from 1:00PM to 3:00PM Sunday, August 31, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM at Morton Whetstone Funeral Home in Vandalia. Friends and family are invited to join in a celebration of Tim's life at the Rib House in Vandalia after the service.
