Verla Sue Foust was born on July 25, 1943 in Knott County Kentucky. Moving to Dayton in 1960, she graduated from Colonel White High School in the Class of 1962. Sue passed away, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, August 14 at Miami Valley Hospital. She was preceded in death by her mother Imogene Jones Alcorn, and her husband of 49 years, Roger Foust.
After marriage, Sue and Roger made their home in Vandalia where they raised two sons. She was an active volunteer in the Vandalia community and schools. Last year, she left Vandalia, moving with her son Anthony and his family to a small farm in Somerville. Also, she recently spent time in California with Rodney.
She is survived by her father Lloyd Alcorn; sons Rodney, Anthony and his wife Michelle; sister Judy Hennessey and her husband Mark; and her beloved grandchildren, Jessica, Christian and Mason-the joys of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, and aunt. Her family was the focus of her entire being. She was selfless and put everyone else first.
Sue was proud of her Southern heritage, most often reflected in her amazing cooking (especially her deviled eggs and potato salads). She epitomized a mother’s love and sense of how to help without being asked. Sue was a terrific, non-judmental listener.
She leaves a profoundly sad family who knows that this world was a better place with her in it. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be directed to the Vandalia Food Pantry. Condolences can be shared online. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, August 16 from 4-6 PM at the Morton &Whetstone Funeral Home in Vandalia. Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10:30 AM.
