Verle A. Campbell

CAMPBELL, Verle A., age 95, of Huber Heights, passed away Sunday January 17, 2021 at Hospice of Dayton. Verle was born January 6, 1926 in Seftin Township, IL, son of the late W. Evert and Rowena V. (Werner) Campbell. Preceded in death by his parents, sister, Marianna Clift and brother, Paul S. Campbell, Verle is survived by his children, Sheryl (Bruce) Boyer, Lyndon (Rita) Campbell, Jeff (Debbie) Campbell, Mona (Jeff) Norton; grandchildren, Nicole Arnold, Amber (Nathan) Smay, Brad (Cheryl) Boyer, Casey (Jeff) Evans, Alyssa (Griffin) Horne, Mara Campbell (Nathan Cook – Fiancé) and eight great-grandchildren.

Verle proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War. Afterward, he attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and then worked in sales for Kraft Foods. He was medically retired in 1978. He then spent years touring the country with his friend, country music legend, Merle Haggard. He was a member of the Heartland Baptist Church, Alton, IL and attended the Covenant at Sugar Grove Church, Tipp City, OH. Verle will be loved and missed by his family and friends. Verle loved the Lord, his family, NASCAR, country music, photography, hot coffee and a good dessert.

Committal service with military funeral honors will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 5 at the Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 W. Third St., Dayton with Pastor Jody McGuire officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Morton Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
