Verlin Ray Hensley, 81, passed away from his earthly home in Carlisle, Ohio, to his eternal home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 13, 2023. Ray was born to Everett & Isabell (Pennington) Hensley on August 2, 1942 in Lee County, Virginia, the middle child of three. After moving to Miamisburg, Ohio, Ray graduated from high school and married his sweetheart, Sandy McFarland, and they made their home in Carlisle.
He was very supportive of his family and his community. Though he worked many hours at the Mound Lab Fire Department, he always found time to support his local Lions Club, the Boy Scouts and little league baseball. He also enjoyed and supported various Hot Rod & Classic Car Shows. His lifelong love of cars and restoration talent produced several award-winning automobiles.
Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra “Sandy” Hensley; his parents, Everett & Isabell Hensley; sister-in-law, Artie Coffee; brother-in-law, Rick McFarland; and his dog, Spunky. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Angela (Ralph) DeBord; son and daughter-in-law, Randall (Eri) Hensley; three grandchildren, Joshua DeBord, Jacqueline Hensley (fiance’ Justin Sadler) and Yvonne DeBord; his brother, Robert Hensley; sister, Kila; many loving nieces, nephews & cousins; his special friends at New Vine Community Church, Lake of the Woods, along with his numerous Hot Rod buddies.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at the New Vine Community Church, 4900 SR 123, Franklin, OH 45005, with the funeral service at 11 a.m. Pastor Chuck Wolfinbarger, officiating. The burial will follow at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in Miamisburg. If desired, memorial contributions can be made to New Vine Community Church or Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
