Victor “Vic” Baker

Age 74, of Butler Twp., passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.

Vic was born December 13, 1942 in Dayton to the late Elbert & Marie (Coy) Baker. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Pittman; one nephew, Jerry Baker, Jr.; and one great nephew, Jeffrey Jones.

He was a graduate of Brookville High School, class of 1961 and went on to proudly serve in the U. S. Navy and then he went on to retire from General Motors with 30 years of service. Vic loved to travel with his wife, family & friends, especially to his favorite destination, Deadwood, South Dakota and on one of their trips, he was honored by the VFW Post # 2750 & Mayor Jerry Toomey with the “Key to the City” of Mitchell, South Dakota. He was an avid Nascar fan and he raced at Eldora in the 60’s & 70’s. He also loved building and showing hot rod street cars. Vic was a member of AMVETS post # 99 (Vandalia), VFW post # 9582 (Vandalia) and the URW Union chapter # 87.

Vic is survived by his loving wife of the past 48 years, Sharon (Cate) Baker; three daughters, Christina Carpenter, Candy Salyer & Mickie Hudson (Jim); brother, Jerry Baker (Vickie); eight grandchildren, Allen Salyer (Keisha), T. J. Hudson, Nicole Jones (Travis), Joe Leonard, Sara Lewis (David), Kyle Leonard, Amber McNutt & James D. Carpenter; three great grandchildren, Katelyn, Arianna & Blair and one great grandson on the way, Ezekiel; life-long friend, Joe Shoemaker; special friend, Roger Rickmon; and by his two devoted fur babies, Muffin & Bootsie.

The family will be receiving friends from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m., Sunday (1/29) at the Morton & Whetstone funeral home, 139 S. Dixie Drive, Vandalia. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday (1/30) at the funeral home with Rev. Fr. Francis Keferl officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Polk Grove Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thanks to the staff of The Hospice of Dayton for the loving care they provided to Vic during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that contributions be made in memory of Vic to The Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420.
