Vona N. Porter

Age 94, of Vandalia, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, August 24, 2024. Vona was born April 25, 1930 in Glyn Ceiriog, Wales to the late David Owen & Mary Elizabeth (Roberts) Hughes. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 30 years, Ned Porter; one grandson, Trevor Wright; and by three brothers, Richard, Roy & Ken Hughes.

Vona immigrated to the United States from Wales at age 26 as a Registered Nurse, where she met and married her husband. She earned her nursing degree in London, England and worked as a nurse in Dayton area well into her 90’s. 

Vona was the beloved mother to five children, Linda Porter, Shayna Wright & her husband, Greg, Scott Porter, Annette Porter & Jeff Porter & his wife, Debbie; eight grandchildren, David, Jesse, Isaac, Ian, Kelly, Kevin, Kristin & Danielle; numerous great grandchildren; two brothers, Paul & Graham Hughes; and by her extended family & many good friends. Vona was loved and cherished by her family & friends who will greatly miss her uniquely charming humor. 

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, November 1, at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery, section 12. Following the committal service, family & friends are invited to a celebration of Vona’s life at Marion’s Pizza in Englewood.
