Wanda passed away May 3, 2017 at Hearth and Home Assisted Living in Vandalia. She was born Sept 5, 1927 in Kent, Ohio to the late William Louis and Blanche T. (Cummings) Wetzel.
Wanda was a retired secretary from the Vandalia Parks and Recreation Department and was previously employed by the Holophane Company and the Pure Oil Company in Newark, Ohio. She graduated from Newark High School with the class of 1945. She was a past Matron of Utica Chapter, Ohio Eastern Star; a past member of the Presbyterian Church of Utica and was currently a member of the United Methodist Church of Vandalia, Ohio. She was also a long-time member of Sister Cities of Vandalia and the Vandalia Senior Citizens.
Wanda loved and enjoyed her family, gardening, and preparing delectable meals (especially pies!) for frequent gatherings of friends and family. She was an accomplished seamstress and tailored many of her own suits. Pinochle and Euchre were favorite card games and for many years she participated in card flights benefitting the AFS and the Vandalia-Butler Historical Society.
After her marriage, travel became a regular part of life beginning with road trips on the newly built highways of the 50’s, taking in the sights and scenes of the country, eating and overnighting at roadside diners and motels. In the 60’s and 70’s there were yearly family vacations; later, get-away weekends with longtime friends to Oglebay, WVA; Senior educational/learning vacations with Harry, and via Sister Cities she took her first trips abroad, to Germany and later to England where she finally met, in person, her longtime pen pal, Iris Whitfield, who she had corresponded with regularly since she was a teenager.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Carla Clark, of Vandalia, son and daughter-in-law, Scott Dale and Kelly (Ziegler) Clark of Cincinnati, two granddaughters, Alexandra and Kennedy Clark and 11 nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, Paul Wetzel, a sister, Priscilla Burris, an infant brother and sister, and her husband of nearly 62 years, Harry T. Clark.
