Wendell E. Brown
Age 85, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 17, 2019. He was born April 2, 1934 in Mariba, Kentucky to the late Allie E. & Carmie Jane (Tolson) Brown. Wendell was a U. S. Army veteran and in late 1956 after his tour of duty, Wendell moved to Ohio.
Working temporary jobs, he was hired at Specialty Papers/James River Printing Company in Dayton, Ohio. He became their specialized Ink Mixer and Plate Mounter for large contracts and retired after 36 years of service. He was charter member of the Vandalia Church of the Nazarene and assisted several other churches. In the early 1970’s, Wendell joined the Kentucky Christian Conference and served in various capacities. Sunday school work was his forte. He loved teaching the Bible and then became a District Sunday School superintendent and an ordained church Deacon in the Conference. He truly loved teaching and enjoyed hosting home Bible Studies for a number of years. Wendell was also a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the American Legion Post #0888.
Wendell is survived by his loving wife of the past 61 years, Dana A. (Askins) Brown; two children, Tim Brown & his wife, Marilee and Kimberly Simpson & her husband, Timothy; four grandchildren, Ashley (Bradley), Seth (Emmily), Adam & Jacob; and by five great grandchildren, Brendan, Carson, Josie, Gwen & Reese. All visitation and services will be held at the Tipp City Church of the Nazarene, 1221 West Main Street, Tipp City, Ohio 45371.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday (8/21) at the church and from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Thursday (8/22) at the church. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Bill Henderson and Rev. Rachel Kuhn at 11:00 a.m., Thursday at the church. Interment will follow at Polk Grove Cemetery. Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home (Vandalia) is in charge of arrangements.
