HAFER, Wilbur F., age 80 of Vandalia passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011 at the Wood Glen Alzheimers Community. He was born December 31, 1930 in Cincinnati, OH, son of the late Fred & Henrietta Hafer. Wilbur was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, was a former Deputy Registrar with the Huber Heights License Bureau, a former member of the Vandalia City Council and a member of the Vandalia United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Vandalia Masonic Lodge #742 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Antioch Shrine, Demolay and the VFW Post #9582. Preceded in death by his wife, Clara, Wilbur is survived by his children, Brad Hafer (Leigh) of Vandalia, Russell Hafer (Tamme) of Vandalia, Cindy Riess (Bob) of Beavercreek, Jeff Hafer (Carman) of Columbus, and Roger Hafer (Angela) of Erlanger, KY; 9 grandchildren, Charlie, Drake, Breanne, Devan, Trey, Alex, Kelsey, Olivia & Mia; 1 sister, Betty Yowler (Fred) of Rockford, IL and his special companion, Bobbie Courtright. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, August 22 at Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 S. Dixie Dr., with Rev. Thomas Weeks officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia on Sunday evening from 4-7 with Masonic Services at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital in Wilburs memory.
