BATES, William F. age 79 of Tipp City, passed away Tuesday September 11, 2007 at the Upper Valley Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Mr. Bates was born April 22, 1928 in Englewood, OH son of the late Earl & Lois (Ilo) Bates. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a retired electrician with the IBEW Local #82. William was an avid outdoorsman who dearly loved to fish and hunt. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife Barbara and his 2nd wife Amelia, one son Brandon, 2 brothers Bob and Frank, and 2 sisters Pat Clark and Betty Sargeant. William is survived by 2 daughters Beth Bates of FL, Brenda & husband Gary Sondersted of AZ; 2 sons Bill Jr. & wife Deborah Bates of FL, Steven & wife Beverly Bates of Laura; one step-daughter Adriana & husband Rick Crouch of Brookville; 2 step-sons Glen Farmer of CO and Victor & wife Kathy Farmer of Pleasant Hill; one sister June & husband Ned Jay; 2 brothers Gerald & wife Betty Bates and Ted & wife Joyce Bates; 2 brothers-in-law Russ Clark and Bob Sargeant; 15 grandchildren Julie, Mandy, Brittany, Nick, Valerie, Milena, Becca, Chance, Jason, Justin, Kim, Beth, Amy, Rachel, and Amanda and numerous great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 15 at 1:00pm at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home 139 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia with Fr. Robert Monnin officiating. Burial will follow at St John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Tipp City. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 noon until time of service. If so desired, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association in Williams memory.
