William L. Burton

BURTON, William L. “Bill”, age 91 of Vandalia, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Hospice Unit of the Dayton VA Medical Center. Bill was born February 21, 1926 in Somerset, KY, son of the late Broyles & Lotus (Bloom) Burton. He was a retired toolmaker with Apex Machine & Tool of Cooper Industries, was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and a member of the Vandalia Nazarene Church. Bill married the love of his life, Eleace in 1946 and shared 60 beautiful years of marriage before her passing in 2006. He was a kind-hearted, generous man who loved his family and enjoyed fishing. Bill took great pride in being a beloved father, grandfather and “Pa” to his great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by 2 brothers, Roy & Harvey Burton, and 1 sister, Eileen Hurst, Bill is survived by 1 daughter, Sondra Ann Spencer of Vandalia; son, Michael & wife, Kristina Burton of Englewood; 3 grandchildren, Brian Spencer (Lisa), Summer Lyons (Aaron) & Brooke Burton (Jason Harris); 8 great-grandchildren, Shane, Andrew, Taylor, Jack, Isaac, Ethan, Shayla & Aaliyah, 2 brothers, Robert & Ed; 4 sisters, Barbara, Lucreta, Roberta & Lanetta; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and good friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 9 at the Vandalia Nazarene Church, 620 Stonequarry Rd., Vandalia with Pastor Bob Vogelmann officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Vandalia Nazarene Church on Monday evening from 5-7 pm and also on Tuesday morning from 10:30 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Vandalia Nazarene Church in Bill’s memory. Arrangements entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
