William "Bill" Horner

HORNER, William E. Bill age 88 of Vandalia, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Grandview Hospital. He was born September 27, 1922 in Dayton, OH, son of the late Arthur & Marie Horner. Bill was a 1940 graduate of Steele High School and earned his Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dayton in 1950. He retired from Standard Register after his career of 35 years. Bill was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, an active member of the Vandalia United Methodist Church and the Troopers Class, and a 50-year member of both the Vandalia Lions Club and the Vandalia Masonic Lodge #742 F&AM. He enjoyed playing golf and bridge, traveling and the theater. Preceded in death by 2 sisters, Alda Heywood & Margaret Cottle and 1 son, David A. Horner & his family, Bill is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Marilynn (Rice); 2 daughters, Melissa Wheaton (Walter) of IL and Mary Beth Gonzalez (Jim Butters) of NV; and 4 grandchildren, Brad & Ryan Wheaton and Dustin & Trever Gonzalez. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 21 at the Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 S. Dixie Dr., from 11:00 am " 1:00 pm. Funeral services, including a Lions Club Service will be held at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Vandalia Lions Club, P.O. Box 444, Vandalia, OH 45377 or the Vandalia - Butler Foundation Horner Family Fund, P.O. Box 722, Vandalia, OH 45377 in Bills memory. Arrangements entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
