JOHNSTON, William A. “Bill,” 74, of Vandalia, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023 at his home. He was born to the late William & Evelyn Johnston on November 12, 1948 in New York, New York (Queens). Bill was a member of the Vandalia United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Bill received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Wright State University and was a tax auditor with the City of Dayton before his retirement. He was a percussionist for various musical organizations, enjoyed karate and was a member of the I.S.K.F.
Survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Judi Johnston; sons, Robert W. Johnston (Gina) and Joseph A. Johnston (Amanda); daughter, Sara E. Taylor (Matthew); grandchildren, Noah, Evan, Breckin, Althea, Madelyn & Miri; cousin, Charles Federlin (Maureen) and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2023 at the Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia, with Rev. Michael Malcosky officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday two hours prior to the service (4:00-6:00 p.m.) at the church.
The burial will take place with military honors at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Mar. 31, at the Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 West Third St., Dayton, Ohio (upon arrival, follow the signs to Assembly Area B) .
