Zelma May (nee: O’Field) Scarbrough
Age 87 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at the Patriot Ridge Community Center, Fairborn, Ohio with special care provided by Hospice of Miami Valley. Zelma was a woman of great faith and was the heart of the Scarbrough family. She shaped her family’s spirituality by her tireless Christian example, serving God in multiple ministries within the church, most recently participating in prayer meetings and book club. Possessing a true servant’s heart, Zelma faithfully shared the Lord Jesus, taking care of all who came within her household. She enjoyed gardening, cake decorating, sewing and crafting. She was a Registered Nurse who kept her license open and active, nursing into her early 80s. She was a beloved member of Englewood Christian Assembly of God in Englewood, Ohio.
Zelma was born on May 28, 1928 to Henry A and Alice B. (Stone) O’Field in Cerro Gordo, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband James Robert and son Kenneth D, daughter in law, Peggy, step grandson Joshua Barrows, as well as her parents, sister in law Betty O’Field and most recently her brother, Junior Ray O’Field who passed away on February 11, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Zelma is survived by her children, Mary, James, Joyce (Jay) Hensley, Alice, Michael (Dorinda), Timothy (Lisa) and Victoria. Grandchildren Jedediah, Zachariah, Malachi, Hilary (Jason) Poole, Christina (Brandon) Stower-Lee, Carey (Brent) Atwood, Joshua (Kaylee), Miranda Barrows, Justin and Darissa. Great grandchildren Chloe Stower, Kallie Stower, Parker Hensley and Aubrey Atwood as well as extended family.
Friends and family may call at the visitation to be held Sunday, March 27 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Englewood Christian Assembly of God 415 North Main Street, Englewood Ohio 45322. The funeral service for Zelma will be held Monday, March 28, 10:30 AM at Morton-Whetstone 139 S Dixie Drive, Vandalia, Ohio 45377, with burial at Maple Hill Cemetery, Tipp City. Her sons, Rev. Timothy Scarbrough and Rev. James Scarbrough will be officiating. She had a passion to spread the Gospel and financially support mission teams, so, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sioux Indian Mission Project through Englewood Christian Assembly of God in honor of Zelma if desired.
