Andrew J. “Andy” Papanek, age 83, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2022, in Miamisburg, Ohio.
Andy was born to the late Andrew and Anna Papanek on October 5, 1939. He graduated from Butler High School, was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and attended Sinclair Community College. In 1964 he was hired as a deputy sheriff with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and began a distinguished career in law enforcement that spanned 37 years. Andrew attended the FBI National Academy and ultimately achieved the rank of Chief Deputy. He went on to serve as Chief of Police in Brookville, Ohio from 1986 until retiring in 2003. After retiring from law enforcement, he was employed as the Vice President of Anderson Security and served as a Miami Township Trustee.
Andy was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a Cleveland Browns fan, avid fisherman, and loved taking family trips to Gatlinburg, TN. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Linda Papanek, four children, Scott (Nancy) Papanek, Todd (Julie) Papanek, Jeff (Heather) Papanek, Kelli (Shawn) Todd, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many friends.
A private family memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Andy’s name to Heroic Deeds, heroicdeeds.org , a nonprofit that supports the physical, psychological, and faith fitness of first responders in the Dayton area.
